Alice Darlene Bruner Larsen November 7, 1928-February 4, 2010

Alice Darlene Bruner Larsen, youngest daughter of Frederick Arthur and Ava E. (Greer) Bruner, was born November 7, 1928 at Clearfield, Iowa. She died February 4, 2010 at the Clearview Home in Clearfield after a lengthy illness. Darlene was united in marriage to Richard Dean Larsen on August 29, 1947. To this union three children were born, Ray Dean, Paula Suzanne and Barbara Jolene.

Darlene was a member of the Clearfield United Methodist Church of which she was very active in the United Methodist Women, Missions committee and Bible study. For many years Darlene kept a scrapbook of the Iowa State Fair shuttle bus service for the Clearfield Lions Club. She became a member of the club and served as secretary for several years.

Darlene was an active member of Cornelia Chapter #524 Order of the Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron a number of times and was appointed to serve as Grand Electa of the Grand Lodge of Iowa in 2008. In 2009 she was appointed to serve as Grand Representative of North Dakota.

Darlene loved reading, playing cards and games. She belonged to several bridge clubs, other card clubs and was a longtime member of the Friendly Neighbor Club. She enjoyed cooking and quilting. She especially enjoyed her family and supported the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents, Fred and Ava Bruner; parents-in-law, Chris and Fern Larsen; brothers-in-law, Robert Parrish, Glenn Larsen, Orrin Larsen, Harold Larsen and Boyd Larsen; sisters-in-law, Helen Larsen, Priscilla Harvey and Cleota Larsen, and great-niece, Monica Longfellow.

Darlene is survived by her children, Ray Dean Larsen and wife Karen of Clearfield, Iowa, Paula Larsen of Hedrick, Iowa and Barbara Garrett and husband Art of Diagonal, Iowa; grandchildren, Robert Larsen and wife Katie, Kimberly Brammer and husband Aaron, Julie Malcom and husband Bob and Ronda Evans and husband Chris; great-grandchildren, Rylan Larsen, Neely Malcom, Heath Evans, Colter Pickering, Chayse Malcom, Kade Malcom and Shaylen (Aaron) Linke; sister, Dorothy Parrish; brother-in-law, Jim Larsen and wife Eleanor; sister-in-law, Dorothea Larsen, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

A memorial fund has been established to the United Methodist Church in Clearfield. Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Clearfield was in charge of the arrangements.

An Eastern Star service was held at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield on Sunday, February 7.

Funeral services were conducted at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield on Monday, February 8, 2010,   with Rev. Jerry Robertson officiating. Musicians were Patty Parrish and Ann Robinson.

Casket bearers included Jim Parrish, John Parrish, Bill Parrish, David Parrish, Kenny Larsen and Luke Larsen.             

Honorary pallbearers were Leroy Beggs, Delbert Routh, Carroll Baker and Bob McMath.

Darlene was laid at rest in the Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield.
