Howard R. Faust May 28, 1926 – April 20, 2010

Howard R. Faust, 83, of Mount Ayr, Iowa passed away April 20, 2010 at the Ringgold County Hospital. He was born May 28, 1926 in Winterset, Iowa to John and Ruth Faust.

Howard was manager for many years of the Places store in Mount Ayr and Chariton. He worked at Prudential Insurance in Des Moines, Iowa for 17 years and also at the VA Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa for 12 1/2 years and retired from there in 1988.

Howard was a proud combat WWII US Army veteran and was a member of the American Legion for 61 years. He also was involved in many organizations while in Chariton; Lucas County Red Cross, Chariton Chamber of Commerce, Lucas County Jaycees, Lucas County Little League, Boy Scouts of America and the Chariton Lions Club. He also was a member of the Chariton Methodist Church. Howard enjoyed doing yard work and visiting with his grandkids. He never met a stranger and loved to visit with anyone who crossed his path.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; son, Steve and friend Mary of Urbandale, Iowa; stepdaughter, Mary Arnold and husband Randy of Ankeny, Iowa; stepson, John Starmer and wife Sheila of Prole, Iowa; grandkids, Chase, Hunter, Peyton and Nolan; sister, Kathryn Chartrand of Mount Ayr, Iowa; mother-in-law Alice Boyd of Mount Ayr, Iowa; brother in-law, Jan Boyd and wife Barbara of Hot Springs, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Sandra Boyd of San Carlos, California, and several nieces and nephews.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Claire.

Memorials may be made to the American Legion Ringgold Post #172 in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

Services were held at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Thursday, April 22, 2010, with Rev. Skip Rushing officiating.

Musicians were Doug and Lori Faust.

Casket bearers were Randy Faust, Doug Faust, Merle Walters,           Brent Ricker, Tim Fish and Randy Arnold.

Howard was laid at rest on Friday, April 23, 2010, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa.
