Agnes Hampton Sutherland January 18, 1915 – May 24, 2010

  Agnes Hampton, daughter of Henry and Matle (Lethco) Hampton, was born January 18, 1915 in Pansy, Missouri. Agnes married her childhood sweetheart, Clarence Sutherland, on January 31, 1939 in Ava, Missouri. They moved to Tingley, Iowa in the summer of 1939. Agnes lived in her Tingley home until the spring of 2006 at which time she moved into the Mount Ayr Health Care. Agnes enjoyed watching basketball games on TV, time in the kitchen, sewing, visiting on the phone and hearing about her family. She was convinced that she could fix almost anything. She was always willing to help wherever she was needed. Whatever she did, it was done well. Agnes lived as a homemaker her entire life and also worked outside the home at the Tingley Caf??, the Shamrock Caf?? and the Sunny Slope Nursing Home which became the Mount Ayr Health Care.

She passed into rest on May 24, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents, Henry and Matle Hampton, and brother, Clifton Hampton.

Agnes is survived by her only daughter, Norma Jean Jones of West Des Moines, Iowa; her only granddaughter, Sheri Kay Cork of Jefferson, South Dakota; grand-son-in-law, Don Cork; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Sarah and Benjamin Cork; sisters-in-law, Althea Hampton and Goldie Sutherland, and many nieces and nephews.

She will be missed by her family and friends.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Tingley Cemetery in Tingley and will be conducted by Rev. Gwen Trullinger. Open viewing will be at the Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Thursday from 12 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Memorials are to the Mount Ayr Health Care Center.
