Julia Smith July 16, 1923 – September 3, 2010

Julia Smith was born in Jefferson township, Ringgold county, Iowa on July 16, 1923 to Edith (Clymer) Smith and Henry T. Smith. Julia was one of nine children. Julia lived with her parents until age 13 and then was placed at Glenwood State Hospital School. She moved to the Jasper County Care Facility in 1961. She would later move to the Taylor County Care Facility in 1981 which later became Taylor Ridge Estates.

Julia was able to regain contact with her remaining family members. Julia’s true passion was her sister, Ellen, better known as Ellie. They were roommates at Taylor Ridge until Ellen’s death on October 19, 1999. Ellie meant everything to her as did her nieces, Denise Peterman and Patty Mains, and great-niece, Melissa Kennan.

Julia held different jobs at Taylor Ridge such as laundry, kitchen and housekeeping. Julia loved outings and music but most of the time you could find her on the patio greeting everyone who came in and out of the door and you felt welcomed by her beautiful smile. Julia loved her coffee and dressing up in Halloween costumes. She was a shopper. She liked watching TV and movies. Julia loved the color red and would wear red a lot. She loved her chocolate and the summertime.

Julia passed away on September 3, 2010 at Lenox Care Center in Lenox. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Josephine Morgan, Betty Jane Peterman, Lena Smith, Bessie Barker, Florence Barker, Pearl Roach, Jessie Smith and Ellen Smith.
