David Franklin May August 5, 1953 – October 11, 2010

David Franklin May, son of John Franklin and Carol Jean (Clark) May, was born August 5, 1953 at Mount Ayr, Iowa. David graduated from Mount Ayr Community high school in 1971. He married Beverly Sue Halsted in May of 1970 and to this union Heather Jo was born. David and Beverly later divorced. David lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Fort Worth, Texas before moving back to Mount Ayr in 1990.
Dave worked construction but will most be remembered for being an artist and operating a screen printing business. He started Dave’s Screenprinting while living in Fort Worth and continued the business in Mount Ayr. David loved the outdoors and enjoyed his home on the Iowa border.
David was diagnosed with cancer and passed away at his home October 11, 2010. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and two nephews, Brandon Campbell and Austin Boyd.
Survivors include his parents, John and Carol May of Mount Ayr, Iowa; daughter, Heather Jo (Chad) Wesch of Omaha, Nebraska and three grandchildren, Benjamin, Madison and Zachary Wesch; three sisters, Linda (Dennis) Huntsman of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Kathy (Phillip) Campbell of Douds, Iowa and Shelly (Loren) Norton of Kingston, Iowa, and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
A memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided later.
Services were held at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Thursday, October 14, 2010, with Rev. Phillip Campbell and Rev. Charles Weiman officiating. Musicians were Nancy Sackett and Grace Warin.
Casket bearers included Eric Clymer, Ed Sobotka, Kent Thompson, Ted Smith, Doug Hosfield, Mark Bagley, Chuck Morin and Bill Doudy.
Dave was laid at rest in the Watterson’s Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
