Rosetta (Gigi) Mae Rush McGehee, 88, of Mount Ayr passed away on October 3, 2010 at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
She was born June 9, 1922 at Mount Ayr, the daughter of Percy Rush and Mary L. Matthews Rush Thomas. Gigi graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1940. She went on to college for the next two years and then taught country school.
Gigi married Charles Wayne McGehee on January 25, 1944. They were blessed with a son and daughter, Charles ‘Chuck’ Wayne McGehee, Jr. and Mary Anne McGehee Lane. She was a devoted wife and mother and cherished her family more than anything.
She was a teacher at country schools, a cook at Mount Ayr Community schools and finally retired from Contel phone company. Her favorite job that she enjoyed most was taking care of her family. She was very active in the community and loved living in her hometown. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Progressive Couples Sunday School Class, Modern Mothers and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Gigi was always entertaining to her grandchildren. She loved to laugh and have fun even if it was one of her clumsy crazy incidents that caused the laughing. She welcomed all of her grandkids’ friends into her home and treated them like family. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandkids in their many activities in school as she was always there cheering them on. Her home was always bustling with happiness and she loved to entertain and cook for family and friends.
