Herbert Loren Davenport July 9, 1917- October 13, 2010

  Hubert Loren ‘Tomp’ Davenport, son of Hughie Logan and Florence Caroline (Peterson) Davenport, was born July 9, 1917 in Ringgold county, Iowa and passed away October 13, 2010 at Clearview Home in Clearfield, Iowa. 

Hubert graduated from Diagonal high school in 1936. He married Yreva Ann Sanderson on July 19, 1941 in Grant City, Missouri. To this union six children were born. They farmed in Ringgold and Taylor counties with the last 56 years on a farm south of Clearfield. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sharpsburg, Iowa; Noble Lodge #458 AF & AM, and Cornelius Lodge Order of Eastern Star.

Hubert lived his love through his family and community. He was a dedicated member of Masons, Eastern Star and the Lions Club and was one of the first drivers of the Iowa State Fair shuttle buses. He drove a Clearfield school bus for 10 years. He and Yreva enjoyed square dancing and read meters for the REC for years. They were active in worship services, outreach tape ministry and maintenance of their church. Hubert enjoyed visiting family and friends in the Taylor and Ringgold county area, including the Mount Ayr and Clearfield nursing homes and was known as the ‘Egg Man’ to many in the Clearfield area.

Survivors include his sons, Alvin (Claudia) Davenport of Prescott, Iowa, Harlan (Dee) Davenport of Round Rock, Texas, Brian (Marygrace) Davenport of Clearfield, Iowa and Eric (Deb) Davenport of Blockton, Iowa; daughters, Paula (Charles) Bowman of Lenox, Iowa and Joyce (Carl) Merkh of Spring, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law, Betty Davenport and Frances Davenport, both of Creston, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Yreva, on January 20, 2006; a sister, Beva Morrow, and two brothers, Lee and Dean Davenport. 

A memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided later. Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Clearfield was in charge of the arrangements.

Services were held at the Christian Church in Clearfield on Saturday, October 16, 2010, with Rev. Alan Rusk and Rev. Lyndon Davenport officiating. Pianist was Becky Nelson.

Masonic service was by Ed Edgerton.

Casket bearers included Mike Bowman, Mark Bowman, Chuck Bowman, Aaron Davenport, Craig Davenport and Joey Rusk.

Honorary pall bearer was David Davenport.

Hubert was laid at rest in the Oakland Cemetery, Shannon City, Iowa.
