Adra Leila Bailey January 6, 1924 – November 29, 2010

Adra Leila Bailey was born January 6, 1924 at home in Lincoln township, Ringgold county, Iowa. Adra was the youngest of two daughters born to Reva (Bender) Morey and Harry Morey.

Adra graduated from Clearfield high school in 1941. After high school, Adra taught in rural country schools.

Adra married Richard R. Bailey at the farm on March 6, 1953. To this union two children were born, Sandy and Bob. Adra was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clearfield. She enjoyed the neighborhood club and playing cards in her younger years. Adra enjoyed working on the farm with her father, Harry, and later with her husband, Dick, and son, Bob. She was even able to be outside on the farm as her two grandsons were working on the farm doing what she loved so much. Adra took pride in watching her children grow up and later her grandsons and great-granddaughter. Adra enjoyed spending time with family including her sister, Phyllis and her children, Jack Goodale and Leila Sheets, and their families. Adra was known as a hard worker and could usually be found in her garden or helping with the farm work.

As her health failed and she was unable to do the physical work, she still enjoyed riding in the pickup with family checking on things on the farm. As Adra’s Alzheimers worsened, and even with her family’s help, she was unable to stay in her home alone. Her family was able to return the care that she had so readily given to others in her family such as her mother, husband and children when ill and babysitting her grandchildren. In 2008 she moved in with son Bob and family and, with the help of daughter Sandy, they were able to care for Adra in their homes until her health deteriorated.

In November 2010 she was transferred to Clearview Home in Clearfield following a stay at Greater Regional Medical Center.  Adra passed away on November 29, 2010 at the Clearview Home in Clearfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 1995; sister, Phyllis Goodale; parents, Harry and Reva Morey; stepmother, Hazel Morey; brothers-in-law, Wado Bush, Alan Rood, Phil Cooper, Paul Whitmore, Don Herring, Zeke Bailey and Chuck Goodale; sisters-in-law, Jane Whitmore, Lorraine Rood, Bernadine Cooper, Jean Bailey and Margaret Bush, and a special great-nephew, Mike Goodale.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sandy Bailey of Indianola, Iowa and Bob Bailey and wife RaNa of Diagonal, Iowa; grandsons, Ryan and Chad Bailey, and great-granddaughter, Alexa, all of rural Diagonal, Iowa; sister-in-law, Charlene Marsh and husband Bob of Bella Vista, Arkansas, as well as several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided later. Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Clearfield was in charge of the arrangements.

Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield on Friday, December 3, 2010, Rev. Shurmaine McAlpine officiating. Musical selections were ‘Amazing Grace ‘ and ‘In The Garden.’ Casket bearers included Randall Nickle, Jack Wackernagle, George Haidsiak, Dale Bickel, Randy Deardorff and Pat George.
