Kenneth Leroy Nielsen November 17, 1936 – December 27, 2010

Kenneth Leroy Nielsen, age 74, of Blockton, Iowa died unexpectedly on December 27, 2010. Kenneth was the middle son of Victor and Mildred Nielsen and was born in Newell, Iowa on November 17, 1936.

Ken went to Iowa State University and earned a bachelor of science degree. He married Joyce McCullough on January 17, 1959. They were blessed with three children, Lori, Kevin and Kelly. They began their journey in Eldora where Ken started teaching agriculture. They then ventured onto Garden Grove, Orient, Tama and Toledo and then to New Virginia, Aurelia and finally to the farm in Blockton. Lori and Kevin have fond memories of going to the state fair every year and other trips with members from the FFA Club. At any given time there could be many of Ken’s students found sitting around the kitchen talking and eating.

Ken always had a new treasure to seek for one of his many projects he would dream up. Ken also loved to spend time with his many friends and go on numerous adventures. One was a trip to the state fair with his new motorized scooter. He was so excited that he got to see different places that had previously been out of his reach.  Ken loved to spend time with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The grandchildren enjoyed riding horses and building stuff with Grandpa. Such activities included digging in the dirt and pouring concrete. A bag of nuts and bolts could became a new toy for grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, daughter Lori Hunt (Randy), son Kevin Nielsen (Kris) and daughter Kelly Scott (Robert); grandchildren, Doug, Nick, Amanda, Kent, Nathan, Alyssa, Camille, Bradlee and Dustin, and great-grandchildren, Sophie and Caden.

Ken was preceded by his parents, Victor and Mildred Nielsen; wife, Joyce Nielsen, and brother, Neal Nielsen.

Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford handled the arrangements.
