Dorothy Verlene Denney July 31, 1919- January 2011

Dorothy Verlene Denney was born July 31, 1919 near Tingley Iowa. Her parents were Claude E. and Nellie A. (Goldner) Morrison. As a small child she moved with her family to Archie, Missouri, where she received her education. In 1937 she moved to Redding, Iowa. It was there she met her future husband, Merritt C. Denney. They were privileged to celebrate 67 years of marriage. To this union five children were born, Larry W. Denney of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Norene (Gary) Waugh of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Diane Denney of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Verlene (Marvin) Cannon of Bondurant, Iowa and Retta (John) Baker of Creston, Iowa.
She was a longtime member of the Redding Methodist Church, was active in the U.M.W Club (Boosters) and was also an active member of the Redding Thimble Club for 74 years. She loved working in her garden and spent many hours making quilts and doing embroidering. She loved her family and enjoyed visiting around the kitchen table with a cup of coffee. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Raymond Morrison; sister, Fern Swigart, and grandson, Michael Goodale.
She is survived by her five children; 11 grandchildren including Karen Merritt of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Kevin (Tracy) Waugh of Omaha, Nebraska, Kathey (Carl) Stottlemyer of Council Bluffs, Iowa, William (Heather) Waugh of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Jackie (Marty) Schnoor of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Tammy (Douglas) Martin of Lamoni, Iowa, Nicole (Sean) Stalter of Pella, Iowa, Chellie Craven of Gilman, Iowa, Andy (Mindy) Knapp of Des Moines, Iowa, Luke (Kim) Baker of Creston, Iowa and Laura Baker of Des Moines, Iowa; stepgrandchildren, Jessie, Brandy and Stacy Cannon of Des Moines, Iowa and Shannon Miller of Anamosa, Iowa; 27 great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A memorial fund has been established to the United Methodist Church in Redding. Arrangements were by Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr.
Services were conducted at the United Methodist Church in Redding on Thursday, January 27, 2011, with Rev. Skip Rushing officiating. Musicians included Andy Trullinger, Mary Davenport and Margaret Bickers.
Casket bearers were Kevin Waugh, William D. Waugh, Andy Knapp, Luke Baker, Marty Schnoor and Doug Martin.
Honorary pallbearers included Gary Waugh, Marvin Cannon, John Baker, Carl Stottlemyer and Sean Stalter.
Dorothy was laid at rest in the Redding Cemetery in Redding.
