Ruth B. Knudson, formerly of Albion, Iowa, died February 17, 2011 at Bartel’s Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, Iowa, at the age of 95. In 2010, she had resided at Clearview Estates in Mount Ayr for six months. As is the family’s tradition, she donated her body to the University of Iowa Medical School. Memorial services were held Wednesday at the Albion United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in her name to the Albion Municipal Library.
The daughter of Frank and May (Lesan) Blanchard, Ruth was married for more than 61 years to John Knudson of Marshalltown, Iowa. She taught high school English and journalism in Rock Island and Evergreen Park, IL, and several schools in Iowa, including Creston, and published two books on Lesan family history.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Dr. Stephen Knudson of Dayton, Ohio, Tom Knudson of Tampa, Florida and Mary (Mrs. Alan) Dooley of rural Albion, Iowa; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a granddaughter.
Mitchell Family Funeral Home of Marshalltown was in charge of arrangements.
