Vera Maude Miller Wilkins August 17, 1911 – July 29, 2011

On May 2, 1934, Vera was married to Irvin G. Wilkins in Malcolm, Iowa. To this union four children were born. Irvin was a Methodist minister and Vera’s life centered around her family and the churches and communities where her husband served. She was a help mate with Irvin and worked with the youth and whatever needed to be done. Upon retirement they moved to Mount Ayr. They joined the United Methodist Church where she continued to be an active member.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Mable and Ruth; one brother, Guy; one daughter, Ardie; two grandsons, Timothy and Todd, and two great-grandsons, Zachary and Levi.

Left to cherish her memory are daughter Arlene Bonnett and husband Ward of Bussey, Iowa; son Leonard Wilkins and wife Barbara of Randolph, Iowa; son Harold Wilkins and wife Jan of West Des Moines, Iowa; son-in-law Loren Winemiller of Mount Ayr, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Merlin Wilkins and wife Margaret of Creston, Iowa, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.  

Memorials are to the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church, Kellerton Assembly of God Church and HCI Care Services in Mount Ayr. Arrangements were by Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr.

Services were conducted at the United Methodist Church in Mount Ayr on Monday, August 1, 2011, with Rev. Skip Rushing, Rev. Merlin Wilkins and Pastor Barton Shields  officiating. Organist was Deb Cannon.

Casket bearers included Randy Bonnett, LeRoy Wilkins, Kevin Winemiller, Craig Winemiller, Jeff Wilkins, Denny Miller and Mike Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers were Bill Miller, Don Miller and Dean Mills.

Vera was laid at rest in the Tingley Cemetery in Tingley.
