Larry Lee Blunck March 1, 1939 – August 1, 2011

Larry Lee Blunck passed from this life to the loving arms of Jesus on August 1, 2011 at Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Larry was born March 1, 1939 to Esther (Beal) and Guy Blunck in Benton, Iowa. Larry lived his entire life in Ringgold county. He was the only boy member of the 1957 class of five, the last class to graduate from Benton high school.  His classmates kept in touch with him over the years.
Larry was a walking history book of Ringgold county. He knew just about everyone and everything about the county. He loved learning and continued to listen to books and the Bible up until the time of his death.
As a member of the Free Methodist Church, Larry looked forward to attending services as often as he could with Retha and Eldon Dillenburg. He was a great example of his Christian faith. Larry lived his life with dignity and grace, never complaining or questioning his lot in life. He never said anything bad or mean about anyone.
Some of his greatest joys in his younger years were his Cushman scooter, swimming in a farm pond and playing Monopoly. He and his cousin, Steve Ruby, had many adventures on the scooter. When Larry’s eyesight began to fail, he drove a riding mower daily to the Benton post office and to visit Hazel and Clarence Stevens.
After Larry’s mother married Dean Jackson and moved to Mount Ayr, Larry also came to Mount Ayr to live, where he joined in daily canasta games and meals of mom’s good home cooking.
With declining health, Larry became a resident of Clearview Home and lived there for several years. In addition to the bingo and other activities, Larry liked attending Wednesday church services and singing his favorite hymns, followed by games of canasta with his mother and Camille and Dick Jackson.
Visits by family members and friends, especially children, were highlights of his last few years. He liked hearing about activities and interests of others. He appreciated Rev. Charles Weiman, Leroy and Betty Blessman and other family attending the yearly Clearview picnics.
Larry is survived by his mother, Esther Jackson; many cousins and their spouses, including Steve Ruby, John Beal, Virginia Rees and others, and stepbrother and sisters and spouses, Dick Jackson, Joy Stout, June Boles and Donna Mooney and their  extended families.
Preceding him in death were his father, Guy Blunck, and stepfather, Dean Jackson.
Memorials are to HCI Care Services in Mount Ayr and the Free Methodist Church.
Services were held at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Thursday, August 4, 2011, with Rev. Charles Weiman officiating. Musicians were Nancy Sackett, Rev. Terry Roberts and Richard and Camille Jackson.
Casket bearers included David Mooney, Randy Jackson, David Godbold, Jonathan Stout, Alex Boles and Gabe Swersie.
Honorary pallbearers were Leroy Blessman, Steve Ruby, Bob Boles, Roger Gipson, Shirley Klejch and Mary Ann Matthews.
Larry was laid at rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
