Wilma Jean Pottorff May 20, 1931 – October 9, 2011

  Wilma Jean Pottorff, daughter of Ruth Davis and Samuel Grimes, was born May 10, 1931 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jean grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from Swan high school. On February 5, 1972, she married her soul mate, Glenn Pottorff. They were happily married for 24 years.

For most of her life she called Mount Ayr, Iowa her home. She worked for Pioneer cap and alongside her husband, Glenn, doing fence and roofing work. She was a talented artist and also enjoyed crafts, fishing and card playing with friends. She was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother.    

Jean passed away on October 9, 2011 at the Donnellson Health Center in Donnellson, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Samuel Grimes; husband, Glenn Pottorff on September 20, 1996; one stepson, Larry King;  two grandsons, Bobbie Ray Pottorff, Jr. and Kevin O’Mailia; three sisters, Effie Hildenbrant, Opal Miller and Irene Miller, and three brothers, Clifford, Richard and Glen Grimes. 

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah and husband Tyler Reynolds of Fort Madison, Iowa; six stepchildren, Bob and wife Mary Ann Pottorff, Gary and wife Gloria Pottorff, Deloris and husband Lee Ayers, Glenda and husband Paul Kasper, RoJean Loghry and Janet Perry; her grandchildren, Jennifer McCarty of Fort Madison, Iowa, James Landrum of Clinton, Iowa, Jason and Taishna Novak of Fort Madison, Iowa, Kristina Taylor of Fort Madison, Iowa and Patrick Turnbull of Monmouth, Illinois; numerous grandchildren that she loved and adored; her great grandchildren include Alexis, Tyler, Cassie, and Hunter Glenn Landrum, Alec, Tessa, Jaden, and Allie Clark Novak, and numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvie and wife Blanche Grimes; one sister, Sally and husband Jimmy West; nieces; nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided later.

An open visitation will be held at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Friday, October 14, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 15, at the funeral home. Casket bearers include James Landrum, Tyler Landrum, Jason Novak, Alec Novak and Raymond Ayers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan Ayers, Randy Pottorff, Brandon Ayers, Hunter Glenn Landrum and Jaden Novak. Jean will be buried next to Glenn in the Lincoln Center Cemetery at Hatfield, MO.
