Herbert Dwain Callies March 21, 1933 – October 27, 2011

  Herbert Dwain Callies, son of Marie Schutt and Herbert Callies, was born March 21, 1933 in northern Iowa.

Dwain owned and operated Dwain Callies Excavating since 1951. Dwain married Patricia Pohlman on June 6, 1962 in Miami, Oklahoma. In 1972, the family moved from Kansas City, Missouri to a farm southeast of Clearfield where Dwain farmed and raised cattle in addition to his excavating business.

Dwain passed away October 27, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Callies of Clearfield, Iowa; children, Candias (Randall) Nickle of Clearfield, Iowa, Joe (Barb) Callies of Van Wert, Iowa and Karen Baker and fianc?? Dave Maudlin of Redding, Iowa; stepchildren, Curtis (Renae) Carlson of Nebraska and Vicky Eichelberger of Nebraska; grandchildren, Nathan (Stasia) Nickle, Natasha (Mitch) Gourley, Justin (Kodikae) Callies, Codie Callies, Rocky Baker, Colby Baker and Brittney Baker (fianc?? Brian Otto); stepgrandchildren, Jacqueline Thurman, Jesseca Gepner, Brooke Hunt, Brock and Nickolas Eichelberger and Shannon, Corey and Brandi Carlson; great-grandchildren, Brynn, Breya and Brittlyn Nickle, Tytan and Brogan Gourley; Wyatt and Payton Baker, Bree Otto and Chloe, Noah and Piper Callies; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren, and a sister, Joyce (Denny) Hagler. 

Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield, on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, with Rev. Shurmaine McAlpine officiating. Pianist was Carol Cason. Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Casket bearers included Rocky Baker, Colby Baker, Justin Callies, Nathan Nickle, Larry Brammer and John Pirtle.

Honorary pallbearers were Rick Mackey, Randall Nickle, Dave Maudlin, Kevin Eggert, Darwin Eggert, Jerry Fletchall, Dave Shiflett, Chester Anderson, Chris Larsen, Jim Parrish, Jerry Ewalt and Kenny Nelson.

Burial was in the Clearfield Cemetery in Clearfield.

A memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided later.
