Lois Elaine Johnson August 17, 1934 – October 24, 2011

  Lois Elaine Johnson was born August 17, 1934 to Albert and Eva (Waddel) Deemer on a farm south of Kellerton, Iowa. She passed away at age 77 on Monday, October 24, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa of complications from heart valve surgery.

Lois was raised on a farm south of Mount Ayr and was the second of four girls. Lois attended country school and had many memories of those days riding the horse with her sister, Dee, to school. Lois attended high school in Mount Ayr, graduating in 1953.

On August 16, 1953, Lois married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Johnson, at the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church. Lois was proud of her home and family; raising two children, Terri and Kevin. Lois loved spending time with her grandchildren, Justin and Chanelle Cole and John and William Kibler. Lois and her family traveled to many places for vacations such as California, Yellowstone National Park, Utah, the Rocky Mountains, South Dakota, Ohio, Niagara Falls, Washington, D.C., Miami Beach, Nassau, Hawaii, Las Vegas and Branson, Missouri.

Lois worked for several years at Willey’s Plumbing in Mount Ayr for Ron and Nancy Willey. Lois and Kenny enjoyed spending time dancing several times a week with friends and formed a special bond among them all.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Eva Deemer; parents-in-law, Orlo and Esther Johnson; son-in-law, Dick Cole; sister, Laverne (Dee) Kaus, and brothers-in-law, Neil Kidney and Bill Johnson.

Survivors include her loving husband, Kenneth Johnson of Mount Ayr, Iowa; children, Terri Cole and special friend Mike Kempton of Mount Ayr, Iowa and Kevin Johnson and wife Gina of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; grandchildren, Justin Cole and wife Chanelle of Mount Ayr, Iowa and John Kibler and William Kibler, both of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; sisters, Alberta Joyce Smith and husband Max of Mount Ayr, Iowa and Pamela Heckathorn of Fountain Hills, Arizona; brothers-in-law, Neil Kaus of Rainey River, Canada, Carroll Johnson and wife Beverly of Urbandale, Iowa and Theron Johnson and wife Marilyn of Delphos, Iowa; sister-in-law,  Lois Johnson of Mount Ayr, Iowa, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. 

A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided later.

Services were conducted at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Friday, October 28, 2011. Rev. Alan Rusk officiated. Musical selections were ‘Remember When,’ ‘Holes in the Floor of Heaven,’ ‘When I Get Where I am Going’ and ‘The Dance.’

  Casket bearers included Justin Cole, John Kibler, William Kibler, Jack Gourley, Howard Johnson, Cliff Moulin, Pete Lesan and Ron Willey.

Lois was laid at rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
