Luella Young January 18, 1920 – November 17, 2011

Luella Young, 91, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Creston and Mount Ayr, Iowa, died Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Manor Care in West Des Moines, Iowa. Services were Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston. Burial was at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Luella Frances Young was born January 18, 1920 in Mount Ayr to Irma JuliaVee (Caldwell) Smith and Emlin Albert Smith. She was baptized on December 31, 1935, New Year’s Eve, at the First Baptist Church in Mount Ayr and graduated from Mount Ayr high school on May 19, 1937. On February 26, 1938, Luella was united in marriage to Gerald Raymond Young in Mount Ayr. She taught country school from 1940-1941 at Caledonia, Iowa. She was a member of the First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church in Creston.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald Lee (wife Bonnie) Young of Tingley, Iowa and Robert Eugene (wife Sheryl) Young of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter, Linda Louise (husband Jack) Weese of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Annabelle (husband Robert) Maley of Lafayette, Louisiana and Harriet Jean Burke Rhody of Mesa, Arizona; one brother, Wallace (wife Beverly) Smith of Yuma, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Katreena (husband Glen) Foster, Jeffrey (Sherry) Powell, Tommy Young, Christopher Weese, Jacqualin (husband Tony) Walker, Jesse (wife Jennie) Young, Hanna (husband Matt) Piepel, Nellie (husband Justin) Simon and Jubil Young; nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Young; her two sisters, Junella Elliott and Ramona Sweeney, and three brother-in-laws, Burkett L. Burke, Frank Elliott and Doran Rhody.
