Milford Duane Varner September 3, 1932 – August 20, 2011

 After surviving serious heart attack, stroke and a bout with cancer, Milford Duane Varner passed away on August 10, 2011 of causes incident to age. Milford was deeply loved by his family, a kind and gentle man, respected and revered by the many people he met in the course of his life.

Milford was born September 3, 1932, in Diagonal, Iowa to John and Madge Ethington Varner. The family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where Milford attended East high school. He was elected student body president in 1949. Milford was an all state athlete in football and basketball. He had a passion for golf and enjoyed playing for many years.

In 1951 Milford joined the Air National Guard and served for four years. Milford worked most of his life in the finance industry, retiring as the CEO of Tooele Federal Credit Union. He enjoyed a reputation as an honest and honorable man.

Milford married Nelda Magee in 1971 and enjoyed their time together. Milford is survived by his beloved Nelda; his sons, Chad (Luann) Varner, Ralph (Janie) Varner, Rick (Julie) Bell and Steven (Annette) Bell; daughters, Debbie (Mel) Workman, Trudy (John) Luker, Carrie (John) Grasteit, Vicki Varner and Rhonda (Scott) Bryan; 25 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service to honor Milford’s life was held at Tate Mortuary, 110 South Main, Tooele, Utah on Monday, August 15.
