Lillian Landis August 30, 1918 – February 1, 2012
Lillian Landis, the daughter of Robert Moyer and Laura Elena (Clark) Landis, was born August 30, 1918 near Quakertown, Pennsylvania and died February 1, 2012 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, Iowa at the age of 93 years, five months and two days.
Lillian attended Brick Tavern Country School. When she was 13 years old, she made her commitment to Christ and was baptized at East Swamp Mennonite Church near Quakertown. On February 1, 1942 she was united in marriage to Clarence Landis at East Swamp Mennonite Church. Lillian worked at a shirt factory and also helped Clarence on the farm. In 1948 they moved from Pennsylvania to Omaha, Nebraska where Clarence attended Grace Bible College. After Clarence graduated, they moved to Red Oak, Iowa. They lived in Elliott, Blockton, College Springs, Schaller and Rippey before retiring to Atlantic in 1986. In June of 2007 Lillian moved to the Griswold Care Center, where she lived until the time of her death.
Lillian enjoyed reading, crocheting, embroidery, cooking, gardening and flowers. She had been a member of the Women’s Federated Club of America and the Literary Book Club. Lillian was always active in the churches where they had been served. She loved music and had sung in many music groups and on the radio. She was an outstanding Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Lillian is preceded in death by her parents; her children in infancy, Martha, Karen and Randall; her sisters, Emily Shafer, Mildred George, Ruth Mumbauer and Phebe Griffith, and her great-granddaughter, Kayleen Amos.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence Landis of Griswold, Iowa; her children and spouses, Laura Amos and husband Milton of Griswold, Iowa, Sharon Ketelsen and husband Steve of Verdon, Nebraska, Bill Landis and wife Jo of Sycamore, Illinois and Marilyn Swanson and husband Don of Omaha, Nebraska; her grandchildren, Jeff Amos and wife Patti, Mike Amos and wife Kyla, Bob Amos and wife Jolene, Shannon Jones and husband Scott, Shae Dalke and husband Mike, Kara Lehnhardt and husband Jason, Rachel Landis, Jacob Landis, Justin Swanson and wife Mandy and Grant Swanson; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, especially the many great caregivers at the Griswold Care Center.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at the Griswold United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Whipple Cemetery, West of Griswold. A memorial fund has been established. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold was in charge of arrangements.
