Jessie Ibbotson, 89, of Creston, Iowa, died, Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston. Funeral services were Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston. Pastor Dianna Clark officiated. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery, south of Creston. Jessie Caroline Carson, daughter of Otis Howard Carson and Jessie Caroline (Downing) Carson, was born March 4, 1923 in Diagonal, Iowa. She graduated from Diagonal high school in 1939. She went on to study at Grand Island Business College in Grand Island, Nebraska.
On December 31, 1940, Jessie married Boyd Milton Ibbotson in Grant City, MO. They first settled in Knowlton where she worked as a farmwife until moving to the Cromwell area in 1945. She continued as a farmwife and homemaker until moving to Creston in 1956. She worked for a printing company and as a waitress. She also worked for United Food Stores and then Anderson and Warner Attorneys, doing abstract work. Jessie and Carole Wimmer-Cooper began their own partnership, Union County Abstract Company in Creston, which she operated for 10 years. Jessie continued to work there after they had sold it to new owners to help train them.
Jessie was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Happy Hour Card Club, both of Creston.
Survivors include her son, Jeff (wife Linda) Ibbotson of Creston, Iowa; daughter, Janis Denney of Pella, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Jean Ibbotson of Farmersville, Texas, Josiah (wife Laura) Ibbotson of Bremerton, Washington, Julia (husband Matt) Amos of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Ira (wife Amanda) Ibbotson of Creston, Iowa, Avery Ibbotson of Creston, Iowa and Nicole (husband Sean) Stalter of Pella, Iowa; five stepgrandchildren, Mike Taylor of Creston, Iowa, Chuck (wife Krystal) Taylor of Creston, Iowa, Lois Taylor of Creston, Iowa, Buddy Taylor of Creston, Iowa and Jaymie (husband Matt) Rinehart of Killeen, Texas; nine great-grandchildren, Jessica Stalter, Cael Stalter, Johnathon Ibbotson, David Ibbotson, Matthew Ibbotson, Daniel Ibbotson, Matthew Amos, Elijah Amos and Onxe Ibbotson; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren, Isaiah Taylor, Terence Taylor, Matthew Taylor, Michael Taylor, Gabby Taylor, Taylor Groves, Bailey Ebrecht, Jeremy Ebrecht, Sydney Taylor and Brittany Taylor; a stepgreat-great-granddaughter, Eliza Ebrecht, and two sisters-in-law, Vera Carson of Redding, Iowa and Ethel Carson of Creston, Iowa.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Boyd in 1990; grandson, John Ibbotson; stepgranddaughter, Victoria; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Ibbotson; two brothers, Otis and John Carson, and a sister, Doris Fredricksen.
