Berdean Freda Beardsley June 2, 1927 – March 22, 2012
Berdean Freda Beardsley, age 84 of Grand River, Iowa, daughter of Lyle and Ruby (Work) Johnson, was born June 2, 1927 near Armstrong, Iowa and died March 22, 2012 at her home in Grand River.
When Berdean was about a year old, her family moved to Avoca, Minnesota. They farmed until the spring of 1932, when they moved to Algona, Iowa. Berdean, her two brothers and three sisters grew up in Algona.
Berdean attended the Algona schools and also the Methodist Church. She joined the Catholic Church shortly before she married Don Beardsley. Berdean and Don were married at Algona on May 23, 1951. They spent a lifetime as loving and devoted best friends.
They moved to a farm near Grand River and lived and worked happily the next 30 years. After retiring and moving into Grand River, they spent about eight winters in the south. During Berdean’s battle with cancer, the caring people of Grand River provided transportation to treatments, brought food to the house and helped in many other ways.
Besides a good husband, Berdean could have loved no one more than her good mother, brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her mother; two brothers, Doyle and Delferd Johnson; three sisters, Illa Mae Elbert, Sharon Lee Ostwald and Vanecia ‘Van’ Meador; four nephews, and three great- nephews.
Berdean is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Don Beardsley of Grand River, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren; good friend Connie Boles and husband Garry of Grand River, Iowa, and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were Monday, March 26, 2012, at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand River with Father Glen Wilwerding officiating. Burial was in Grand River Cemetery.
