Marvin Ray Rice November 22, 1935 – March 29, 2012

  Marvin Ray Rice, age 76, of Leon, Iowa, the son of Howard Eldon and Ora Marie (Walter) Rice, was born November 22, 1935 on a farm northwest of Kellerton, Iowa in Ringgold county, the youngest of three children. He passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Marvin attended various country schools around Mount Ayr and graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1955. In 1957 he married Jessie Lorene Trullinger. They had four children together. They later divorced and on June 14, 1969 he married Carolyn Neva Slagg.

He worked as a cook in several restaurants in Leon and Mount Ayr. He then worked for various insurance companies for 16 years. He loved country music. He and his good friend started a band and played at many dances. After his move to Osceola he continued a band there.

Preceding Marvin in death were his parents, brother, Donald Rice, and son, Dale Edward Rice in 2011. He leaves to mourn, his wife of 42 years, Carolyn Rice of Leon, Iowa; children, Steven Ray Rice and wife Becky, Kyle Eugene Rice and wife Kathy and Sharon ‘Shari’ Lorene Stanley and husband Gary, all of Lincoln, Nebraska and Mary Rice of Leon, Iowa; grandchildren, Charity and Betin Meza, Josh and Annie Rice, Christina and Todd Webb, David and Krista Rice, Cynthia Rice, Kimberly and Daniel Kress, Daniel Rice, Loren and Kayla Stanley, Micah and Jessica Stanley, Benjamin Stanley and Caleb Stanley, all of Lincoln and Carolyn Sue Rice of Leon, Iowa; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Mercer and husband Bill of Creston, Iowa; brother-in-law, Bill Slagg and wife Dee of Humeston, Iowa; nieces and nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at the Slade’O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon Monday, April 2, 2012, with Rev. Wade Meyers officiating. Burial was in the Garden Grove Cemetery, Garden Grove, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.
