Lila Mae (Reynolds) Overholtzer

Lila Mae (Reynolds) Overholtzer, 74 years old, was born May 15, 1937 to Earl (Shorty) Reynolds and Opal Lucille (Puttroff) Reynolds near Kellerton, Iowa. She passed away April 15, 2012 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Before graduating high school in 1955, she attended Poe #6 country school. Lila had various occupations beginning with being a teller at Security State Bank. During this time she and Allen Richards were married. Lila then went to work at the assessor’s office and later went on to be a magistrate judge. Lila found her calling when she started Lilac’s Gift Shop near Kellerton on their farm where she worked for many years enjoying making flower arrangements.
After the death of Allen, Lila was united in marriage with Jim Overholtzer in a service held in Hawaii. They had 26 wonderful years together dancing, playing cribbage, traveling and enjoying being with family and friends. Lila has been an active member of the First Christian Church for over 50 years. Lila was a deacon and served on various committees.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Allen and Jim; daughter, Janis Overholtzer; brothers, Junior and Marvin (Mack) Reynolds; brother-in-law, Paul Davis, and sisters-in-law, Fern Reynolds and Norma Jean Nichols.
She is survived by her sons, Chris (Paula) and Dan (Sanwa) Overholtzer of Washington state; granddaughters, Susan Lay, Jennifer (Nick) Wagner and Natasha (Jason) Coyne; grandsons, Erik (Shelly), Colin, Quinn, Mason and Robin Overholtzer; four great-grandchildren, and was a godmother to Kenny and Kelley Davenport. Lila is also survived by sisters, Olive Davis, Mickey (Paul) Drake, Betty (Cecil) Davenport of Mount Ayr and Lou (Steve) Church of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear, dear friends.
A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided later. Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.
Services were conducted at the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, with Rev. Chris Conklin officiating. Musicians included Nancy Sackett, Terry Roberts and Kathy Rinehart.
Casket bearers were Mike Reynolds, Mike Shields, Kelly Richards, David Richards, Deric Drake and Barton Shields.
Honorary pallbearers were Charles Richards, Robert Richards, Dennis Pyland, Kenneth Johnson, Gerold Willey, Marvin ‘Pete’ Lesan and Mack Sickels.
Lila was laid at rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
