Lillian Isabelle Guthland, 81, departed for her heavenly homecoming on November 2, 2012 in Independence, Missouri at her home. She was born December 28, 1930 in Athelstan, Iowa to Rex and Mildred (Wehrle) Sickels.

On February 2, 1951 she was united in marriage to Lt. Col. Robert E. Guthland (USAF, Ret.) of the home. Belle, as she was called by her family and friends, served her country as a military wife for 25 years. After their military service ended, she taught school as a special education teacher at Northwest Missouri Vocational Educational Learning Center. Belle was a member of the First Christian Church of Blue Springs, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rex and Mildred; her son, David Edward Guthland; her sister, Dorothy Mosier, and brothers, Sam and Leland Sickels.

In addition to her husband, Robert, Belle is survived by her sons, Rex Guthland and wife Gayle of Waconia, Minnesota; Major Scott Guthland (USAF, Ret.) and wife Tammy of Sykesville, Maryland; daughter, Christine Johnson and David Scott Johnson of Blue Springs, Missouri; brother, John K. Sickels of Mount Ayr, Iowa; sisters, Shirley Karr of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Kay Mosier of Littleton, Colorado and Martha Palmer of Decatur, IL; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Monday, November 5, 2012, at the First Christian Church of Blue Springs in Blue Springs, Missouri with Rev. Cliff Caton officiating. Poem was by Jennifer Grimelli, Amanda Elmore, Hannah Guthland-Strubert, Melia Cerrato and Megan Johnson. Eulogy was given by Scott Guthland (Maj. USAF, Ret.). 

Pallbearers were Aaron Guthland-Strubert, Micah Guthland, Josiah Guthland, David M. Johnson, Spencer Johnson and Jack Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers included Chris Grimelli, Major Raymond Elmore and John Sickels.
