Norma Sara Bickel Weehler was born at home in Sherman county, Nebraska to Henry and Katherine Sheehan Bickel on June 1, 1920. She died at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa on December 20, 2012.

Norma attended the Bickel school in Nebraska for the first eight years of her education and then graduated from Litchfield, Nebraska high school in 1937. She attended Kearney State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate and then taught for three years in rural Nebraska schools.

In 1940 Norma married Lee Weehler and they established their first home in Ogallala, Nebraska. In 1941 they moved to Blockton, Iowa and started farming. Later they moved to the Clearfield and Benton area.

Norma was a beautiful woman inside and out. Family was very important to her and she spent much of her time enjoying her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook, especially making delicious noodles and rolls. Gardening and canning filled her time in the summer and in the winter she enjoyed quilting. All of her children and grandchildren are recipients of her handiwork.

She was a member of the Mount Ayr Baptist Church Missionary Society and in charge of funeral dinners there for a number of years.

Norma is survived by her four children, Richard (Joyce) Weehler of Maloy, Iowa, Robert (Kim) Weehler of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Debra Weehler (Deb Smith) and Diane Weehler, all of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Becky Heilman, Randy Weehler, Neil Weehler, Danyale Boardman, Sommer Jones, Colton Weehler and Drew Weehler-Smith; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Blanche Bickel of Omaha, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Doris Poteet of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee; daughter, Janet Kay Weehler; siblings, Fredrick Bickel, William Bickel, Frances Shuman, Ruth Davis, Ruby O’Connor, Katherine Weist, Floyd Bickel and Erma Wentz.

Her memorial fund will go to United Baptist-Presbyterian Church and Clearview Home. Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.

Services were conducted at the United Baptist-Presbyterian Church in Mount Ayr, on Monday, December 24, 2012, with Pastor Mike Maddy officiating. Musicians were Faye Howie and Deb Larson.

Casket bearers included Randy Weehler, Neil Weehler, Drew Weehler-Smith, Colton Weehler, Jordan Stewart, Riley Weehler and James Heilman.

Honorary pallbearers were Becky Heilman, Danyale Boardman, Jensen Stewart, Jessica Heilman and Sommer Jones.

Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
