LOREEN BARTRONA REED
Loreen Bartrona Reed, daughter of Benjamin and Clara Belle (Critchfield) Scadden, was born October 10, 1922 at home in Boyd County, Nebraska.
On September 20, 1940, Loreen was united in marriage to Oscar C. Reed in Osceola, Iowa. To this marriage, four children were born: Donna, Judy, Bonnie, and Gene.
Loreen was baptized on April 20, 2003. She was a member of the Kellerton Family Worship Center. She loved the Lord and going to church.
Family was very important to Loreen. She loved when any or all came to visit. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She cared for her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Loreen loved to dance and had the most beautiful waltz. She loved to play bingo. She also loved to crochet and made dolls, doilies, shawls, afghans and anything else anyone wanted.
Loreen passed away April 30, 2015 while a resident of the Mount Ayr Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; Oscar Reed; daughter Bonnie Ross and her husband Jackie; sons-in-law Melvin Doolittle and Marion Stark; grandson Donnie Ross; great grandchildren Noah Jonathon Edwards and Ava Jaibree Frost; brothers Carrol and Leonard Scadden; sister Wanda Grimm and her husband Dale Grimm; brothers-in-law Leonard Cunningham and Ed Jonas; sister-in-law Donna Scadden.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Donna Stark of Kellerton, Judy Doolittle of Kellerton, and Gene Reed and wife Cathy of Ellston; 15 grandchildren; Mike Stark, Debbie Holmes, Jacki Stark, Billie Stark, Penni Hewlett, Janie Stark, Teena Hash, Rick Ross, Vickie Ross, Denny Stark, Ron Ross, Joe Stark, Gerri Phelps, Terri Van Gelder, and David Reed; 43 great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren; sister Maxine Jonas of Sioux City, IA; brothers Everett (Pete) Scadden of Gibbon, NE and Larry Scadden and wife Linda of Sioux City, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Bart Shields officiated the service with Penni Hewlett offering memories and Mike Stark, Alice Sweeten, and Kenny Campbell providing the music. Casketbearers were Mike Stark, Joe Stark, Ron Ross, Rick Ross, Denny Stark, Billie Stark and David Reed. Honorary pallbearers were Debbie Holmes, Jacki Stark, Penni Hewlett, Janie Stark, Teena Hash, Vickie Ross, Gerri Phelps, and Terri Van Gelder. Burial was at the Van Wert Cemetery in Van Wert, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
