CECIL EDWARD SMITH

    Cecil Edward Smith was born May 12, 1937 to Cecil Joseph Smith and Vesta Maxine (Keller) Smith in Diagonal, Iowa. Cecil attended West Point Country School. On August 15, 1958 Cecil was united in marriage to Dorothy Rose Sissel at the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr. To this union four children were born, Wade, Dennis, Brian, and Karolyn.
    Through the years Cecil worked many jobs most notably many years building fence and later operating the can redemption company in Clearfield.
    Cecil passed away June 24, 2015 at Clearview Home in Clearfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dee, Lee and Richard, parents-in-law Gail and Edna Sissel, sister-in-law Darlene Mathis, brothers-in-law Walter Mathis, Myron Schnackenberg, and Francis (Bud) Ayers.
    He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Smith of Clearfield; three sons, Wade (Janet) Smith of Ridgecrest, CA, Dennis (Angie) Smith of Tingley and Brian Smith of Clearfield; one daughter, Karolyn (David) Zollman of Mount Ayr; three brothers, Jerry “Jock” (Robin) Smith of Chillicothe, MO, Gary (Brenda) Smith of Diagonal and John Smith of Yuma, AZ; five sisters, Betty Schnackenberg of Diagonal, Irene Ayres of Mount Ayr, Phyllis (Dale) Cregeen of Rockford, IL., Barb (Bob) Strange of Mount Ayr and Roxie (Charlie) Fletcher of Diagonal; nine grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Keith (Leona) Sissel of Kansas City, MO and Delbert (LaDonna) Sissel of Excelsior Springs, MO; one sister-in-law, RoEmma Tull of Creston.
    Graveside services were held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Bill Armstrong officiating. A memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided later. Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home of Clearfield and Mount Ayr is in charge of the arrangements.
