LILLIE MARIE MATLAGE

    Lillie Marie Matlage, the 12th child born to Earl and Lillie (Pearson) Dawson, was born December 21, 1932 at home in Des Moines, Iowa.
    Lillie grew up on the southeast side of Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School. Soon after graduating, Lillie met Clem Edward Matlage while he was home on leave from the US Navy. Lillie and Clem were united in marriage on September 30, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa.
    They made their home on the east side of Des Moines where they raised their three children; Terrll, Edward, and Scott.
    Lillie worked 17 years at Western International in Des Moines. In 1976, they sold their home and moved to Beaconsfield. Lillie and Clem did some house cleaning and carpet cleaning over the next several years. She also helped at the Ringgold County Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. She made quilts, crocheted and had just started knitting. Lillie was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.
    Lillie passed away at her home in Beaconsfield on June 28, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clem on January 14, 2007; and nine brothers and sisters.
    Those left to cherish her memory include her children Terrll (Kevin) Brobst of Oreana, IL, Edward Matlage of Beaconsfield, IA, and Scott (Rhonda) Matlage of Indianola, IA; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; a brother Virgil Dawson and sister Gladys Conn; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    Open viewing will be held at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Thursday, July 2 from 12 to 8 p.m. Visitation, with the family present, will be on Friday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Armstrong officiating. Casketbearers are Scott Matlage, Marshall Matlage, Brian Matlage, Jim Flaugh, Kevin Greenland and  Doug Frost. Music of “I Sing Praises To You Lord,” “I Love you Lord” and “Amazing Grace” was provided by Terrll Brobst. Burial will follow in the Ellston Cemetery.
