WAYNE RICHARDSON

A graveside memorial service for Wayne Richardson is planned for 11 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2015 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Reverend Skip Rushing will officiate. Wayne passed away March 11, 2015 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, where he had made his home for many years. He was 95.
Wayne was born on July 10, 1919 in Ringgold County. As the youngest child of George and Fanny Richardson, he had two older brothers and seven older sisters. Growing up on a farm in the 1920s, his life revolved around family, neighbors, farm dogs, school, livestock and farm work. As a child, he saw farming transition from draft horses to tractors, and he retained a life-long appreciation for both. Indeed, he loved farming, and, although Wayne didn’t own a farm after moving from Iowa, he did his best to raise a garden and some amazing roses in the rocky soil of Colorado. He was an avid reader, and even in his last year, he read books and newspapers, shared opinions, and occasionally traded a joke with friends and family. He loved to call his nephews and trade stories with them. We miss him.
Wayne married Arlene Johnston, the only child of Delmar and Gladys Johnston, on March 24, 1941 in Leavenworth, Kansas. Arlene preceded him in death, as did his son, Alan.
The immediate family that celebrates his life includes daughter Sharon Winter and husband Daniel, of Wheat Ridge, CO, daughter-in-law Joy Richardson of Highlands Ranch, CO, grandson Ryan Richardson, his wife Elizabeth, and great-grandsons Exavier and Owen, of Aurora, CO.
In case of inclement weather, the service will be held inside the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church.
