KATHRYN RUTH CHARTRAND

    Kathryn Ruth (Faust) Chartrand was born December 22, 1927 to Ruth Louise (Linn) Faust and John Edward Faust in Winterset, Iowa. She was the baby of the family joining her parents and two brothers, Claire and Howard. Kathryn passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the Mount Ayr Healthcare Center.
    Kathryn lived on the farm until the third grade when her family moved into Winterset. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1945 where she was recognized as the Ideal Student.
    At the age of 19, she married Boyd J. Chartrand in Winterset. To this union two boys were born, Kim Douglas and David Xen. Kathryn and Boyd later divorced. She attended Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines and later taught and trained at the school for four years. Kathryn owned and operated beauty salons in Winterset and Mount Ayr. She sold Avon for over 30 years. She loved her work and continued to work until she was 80 years old.
    Kathryn was a member of the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr, PEO, Rebekah Lodge and Businessmen’s Club. One of her hobbies that she enjoyed very much was league bowling. Kathryn also loved to knit and crochet in her spare time.
    Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Boyd; two sons, Kim Chartrand and David Chartrand; two brothers, Claire and Howard. Left to cherish her memory are four nephews, Dr. Randall (Sharon) Faust of Macomb, IL, John Faust of Utica, NY, Doug (Lori) Faust of Mankato, MN and Steve Faust of Des Moines; grand nephews, Michael (Kristin) Faust of Davis, CA and Jason Faust of New York, NY; grandniece, Angelyn (Christopher) Kind of New York, NY; great-grandnephews, John Faust of Davis, CA and William Faust of Davis, CA; two sisters in-law, Freeda Faust of Chariton and Kathy Faust of Mount Ayr.
    “The Faust family expresses its appreciation to the friends of Kathryn in the Mount Ayr community and particularly to the family of Kelly Richards, as well as Virginia Scott.”
    Services were held at the Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, IA on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Chris Conklin officiating and Ginny Eighmy providing the music. Casketbearers were Steve Faust, Merle Comer, Merle Walter, Roland Jackson, Brent Ricker and Dusty Barber. Burial is in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, IA. A luncheon at the First Christian church followed the burial.
    A memorial fund has been established to the First Christian Church of Mount Ayr, IA.
