MILDRED FRANKLIN

Mildred Maxine “Mickey” (Keller) Franklin passed from this life on December 5,  2015 at the age of 83. She was born in Tingley, Iowa May 22, 1932. 

After graduation from Shannon City High School, she was employed by Bankers Life Insurance company in Des Moines. She married Richard Franklin on September 15, 1950. In 1957, she accompanied her husband to Japan to start his Naval career where she traveled and lived in many countries and coastal states. 

She was a full-time Navy wife and stay-at-home mother. After the children left home, she sold Avon, worked for Spurgeons Mercantile in Creston, and as a desk clerk for Bernings Motor Inn in Creston. 

She is survived by two daughters Monica, husband Gary Patience of Windsor Heights, IA, Lori Franklin of Mount Ayr, IA and son Michael Franklin of Mount Ayr, IA, six grandchildren Denise (Patience) Greenlees, Holly (Patience) Nancarrow, Christina (Franklin) Perry, Ryan Patience, Stephen Patience, Matthew Franklin, 18 great grandchildren, sisters Doris (Keller) Crecelius of Bedford, Lila (Keller) Greene, husband Jack, of Creston, IA, Sister-in-law Leora Keller of Murray, IA, brother-in-law Dale Campbell of Clearfield, IA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by parents Glen Keller and Opal (Waddell) Keller, husband of 64 years Richard Franklin, sister Jean (Keller) Campbell, and Darlene White, brothers Donald Keller and his wife, Alice, Marvin Keller, and Glen Keller who died in infancy. 

Memorial services for her cremains will be held at Shannon City Community Church, Shannon City, IA on Thursday Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. Inurnment of Mildred and her husband Richard will be celebrated with military honors at the Veterans Cemetery in Des Moines at a later date. 

Memorials may be given and will be forwarded to Greater Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.
