ROXIE KAYE FLETCHER

Roxie Kaye Fletcher, daughter of Cecil Joseph & Vesta Maxine (Keller) Smith, was born at home near Diagonal, Iowa on March 8, 1954. Roxie graduated from Diagonal High School in 1972.
Roxie married Charles Phillip Fletcher on July 21, 1976. They made Diagonal their home where they raised their three children; Robert, Charlotte, and Danny.
Roxie loved being a mother and she was home for them as they were growing up. Roxie worked at the Cap Factory for a few years and later she worked at Jerry’s Texaco & Sinclair. Roxie worked at Midwest Opportunities in Creston and she was a cook at the Diagonal schools, the Diagonal café, Fireside Bar & Grill and most recently Back 40 Bar & Grill in Diagonal. Roxie was a member of the Diagonal First Responders. In addition to being a loving homemaker, Roxie was Charlie’s right-hand man with the farm work.
Roxie loved her family and she loved taking her children and grandchildren fishing and camping. Spending time with them was important. Her love for the kids carried outside her home and into the community when she became a Brownie leader; she decorated the Diagonal city park at Christmas time and hid Easter eggs at Fogle lake for the annual Easter egg hunt. Roxie loved to be outside visiting and was most happy when the front porch was full of people sitting and visiting.
Roxie fought a brave fight with cancer and she passed from this life on March 18, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Cecil Edward Smith, Richard Wayne Smith, twin brothers Lee & Dee Smith; parents-in-law Everett & Alice Fletcher; in-laws Myron Schnackenberg, Bud Ayres, John Fletcher, David Fletcher, Edward Fletcher.
