VELMA KING LORENZ

    Velma King Lorenz was born March 1, 1922 to Sylvia Brown Kennedy and Reed Kennedy in Ringgold County, Iowa. She departed this life at Clearview Home in Clearfield, Iowa on July 25, 2016.
Velma grew up and attended schools in Mount Ayr, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Russell King on January 16, 1941 in Creston, Iowa. To this union was born two sons; Kenneth and Alan. Velma was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed life with family and friends.
    The family lived on a farm near Mount Ayr and they also ran a milk route to Bethany, Missouri. She was also employed at Places and Pamida stores.
    Velma was baptized into Trinity Lutheran Church in Creston, Iowa, where she was also a member. Russell departed this life in November, 1992. Velma later married Gerald Lorenz.
    Velma was preceded in death by her parents Reed and Sylvia Kennedy; daughter-in-law Jolene King; parents-in-law Roy and Opal King; brother Dennis Kennedy and wife Gwen; brothers-in-law Lyle Hogue, Glen King and Mary, Dennis King and Pat, John King and Marge.
    She is survived by her husband Jerry; sons Kenneth King and wife Jane and Alan King; grandchildren Jeffrey King, Justin King and Lisa, Trisha Warner and Sonny; great grandchild Nevaeh; step-daughter Debbie Ribando and John; step-grandchildren John and Michael Ribando; sister Irene Hogue; many nieces, nephews and friends.
    A memorial fund has been established to the Lutheran Women’s Mission League.
    Services were held at the Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, IA on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Rutz officiating.
    Casketbearers were Jeff King, Lyle Hogue, Charlie Bowman and Mike Lang. Burial is in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
