IRIS GLORIA OSBORN

    Iris Gloria Osborn, daughter of Frank H. and Edrie Irene (Day) Culbertson, was born at Knowlton, Iowa on February 12, 1924. Iris grew up in Ringgold County and attended high school in Mount Ayr and then Redding, graduating from Redding High School.
    Iris married Ivan J. Brown, who died serving his country in World War II. From this union was born daughter, Cathy. Iris married Deane V Norris in 1946 and had daughter, Sherry. They later divorced. Iris married Samuel Louis Osborn on August 14, 1960 and his daughter Paula became family. Sam and Iris enjoyed many years together taking walks, sitting by the lake, hosting meals with friends and family, and traveling extensively. Iris and Sam were very involved with the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Mount Ayr.
    Iris was a cosmetologist who opened and operated her business for over 50 years in Mount Ayr: Iris’ Beauty Salon. She received an award for being an active member for over 50 years in the Cosmetologist and Barbers Association of Iowa.
    Iris resided at Clearview Home for over four years. She enjoyed many friendships there with the residents and staff. She loved Bingo, the birds, and her afternoon cup of coffee. It was there that she passed away on August 4, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son-in-law Dennis Ward; brother Junior Culbertson and sister Doris Barker McClintock.
    Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters Paula (Kenneth) Cummins of Gilbert, AZ, Cathy Ward (Steve Lynch) of Mount Ayr, IA, and Sherry (Art) Allen of Stuart, IA; grandchildren Jennifer Harris of McKinney, TX, Greg Cummins of McKinney, TX, Jackie (Jason) Rupe of Lafayette, CO, Jeff (Jennifer Thompson) Carr of Reseda, CA, Kelly (Rom) Souza of Cedar Rapids, IA, Allison Carr of Indianola, IA, Ben (Karen) Carter-Allen of Stuart, IA, Nate (Aimée) Allen of Henderson, NV; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister Lyla (Max) Dawson of Grant City, MO; brother Alan Culbertson of Redding, IA; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is in charge of the arrangements.
    Services were held at the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr, IA on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Edward Shields and Rev. Art Allen officiating and Mike Greene and Collus Lawhead providing the music.
    Casketbearers were Mike Wimer, Matt Wimer, Scott Brand, David Brand, Neil Hartman and Travis Hartman.
    The final resting place is Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, IA. A memorial fund has been established to the Let’s Make the Lake Project at the Christian Conference Center in Newton, IA.
