MARY FLORENCE CAVIN

MARY FLORENCE CAVIN

Mary Florence Cavin, age 92, of Clarinda, Iowa entered into peace Monday, February 20, 2017 at Clarinda Regional Health Center Clarinda, Iowa. Mary Florence (Saville) Cavin was born October 2, 1924, in Redding, Iowa the daughter of Wilbur Frederick Saville and Mamie Louise (Wallace) Saville. She grew up attending country school, graduating from Redding High School with the Class of 1942.  After graduation, Mary went to work for the defense plant in Hastings, Nebraska making ammunition for World War II. In August of 1943, Mary was united in marriage to Elvin Waugh. Born to bless this union were two children, Elvin Waugh, Jr., and Nancy Elizabeth Waugh. They made their home in the Redding area, later divorcing. On February 14, 1951, she was united in marriage to Leston Lyle Cavin at her parent’s farmstead in Redding, Iowa.  Four children were born to bless this union, Lyla Sue, Jerry Alan, Dennis Lee and Regina Ann.
The family grew up one mile east of Blockton on the family farm.  Mary enjoyed staying at home raising her family until her youngest, Regina went to school. She then went to work at MATURA Action Corporation in Mount Ayr as the Site Director. In 1990, Mary retired from this position and continued living in the Blockton area. Mary and Lyle enjoyed going to auctions and getting a good bargain! They also enjoyed visiting the Sidney Rodeo, especially the bull riding. Throughout their married life, they were devoted to their cattle business, raising Charolais. Mary was a wonderful seamstress, who enjoyed quilting.  She was one of the few who actually enjoyed patching socks, jeans or just about anything that someone needed patching! Having grown up during the Great Depression, Mary’s motto was ‘waste not . . . . want not’ . . . she recycled way before it was the ‘in thing’ to do! The children remember growing up working in the family garden, canning the produce to enjoy all year long.  She was a hard working woman who dearly cherished her family.
Left to cherish Mary’s memory are three sons, Elvin Waugh and wife Jolynn of Kingman, Arizona; Jerry Cavin and wife Susan of Clarinda, Iowa; and Dennis Cavin and wife Julia of Clarinda, Iowa; two daughters, Nancy Sundberg of Des Moines, Iowa; and Regina Stevens and husband Rodney of Pinellas Park, Florida; thirteen grandchildren, Carrie Crabtree and husband Rob; Jennifer Anderson; Angela Werth and husband Mark; Todd Maxwell and wife Dori; Chad Maxwell and wife Mina; Michele Cavin and      fiancé Edward Eddington; Laura Risola; Zachary Cavin and wife Rosanne; Denessa Wagoner and husband Kory; Shannon Stevens; Shane Stevens; Sam Stevens and Sierra Stevens; eleven great-grandchildren Ty, Alaina, Emmalee, Bradon, Hunter, Sophia, Leston, Harper, Sawyer, Trianna and Chansley; a son-in-law, John Maxwell; a brother-in-law, Samuel Stephens; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Saville; along with many other family members and friends.
