BETTY JEAN PRUDDEN

Betty Jean (Smith) Prudden, 89, of Mount Ayr passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the Clearview Home in Clearfield.
Betty was the daughter of Samuel Hayden Smith and Naomi Meriam (Nickeson) Smith. She was born in Chugwater, Wyoming on October 15, 1927. Betty and family lived in Wyoming and Missouri until settling on a farm in southwest Iowa. Betty and her siblings rode horses to school to a one-room country schoolhouse. She graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1946.
Betty worked as a dental assistant for several years with Dr. Lawhead. She meet and married John R. Garity in 1953 and to this union had one son, John Ray Garity and they later divorced. In 1965, she was married to Ralph Prudden and to this union one son, Samuel Prudden was born.
Betty was a house wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, reading, painting, listening to old radio shows and spending time with her special pets. Betty always had a smile on her face and in her heart.
Betty delighted in the Lord and did her best always to please him. Betty almost always had a smile on her face and always a smile on her heart.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brother Stanley Smith; sister Donna Greimann; her aunt that helped raise her Iva Barnhill. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Jonny Ray Garity and Samuel “Sam” Prudden; her grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Betty was a blessing to all that knew her. May God bless her sweet soul.
Funeral services were held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr with Titus Lehman and Dennis Hause officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. A memorial fund was established to the family.
