DONALD WILFRED POORE
Donald Wilfred Poore was born March 6, 1931 in rural Ringgold County, Iowa to Orville and Pauline Mae (Stetzler) Poore. He went to school in Ellston and later attended school at Beaconsfield and graduated in 1948. After high school, he worked for a year farming before going to Iowa State College (University) and obtaining his degree in Agriculture Education.
Don joined the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant on December 7, 1955. He served in the USAF for over 23 years, stationed in various locations of the US and in Okinawa, Thailand and Guam during the Viet Nam war. Don returned to K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Marquette, MI as Chief of Combat Operations in 1972 and stayed there until his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1978 as a Radar Navigator and Staff Officer.
Don was united in marriage to Emily Jane Emery on December 11, 1959. Three children were born to this union, David, Jim and Roger. After retiring from the Air Force, Don returned to Kellerton where he had purchased his farm. Don was an active member in the American Legion Post 541 of Ellston. He continued farming until he passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018.
Don is survived by his three sons David (Melissa) Poore of Council Bluffs, Jim Poore of Atlantic, and Roger (Anita) Poore of North Augusta, SC; six grandchildren Andrew and Lucas Poore of Atlantic, Thomas, Michael and Steven Poore of North Augusta, SC and Katherine Poore of Council Bluffs; step-grandsons Travis (Jenny) Rudat, their children Ivy and Vallie all of Wapella, IL and Tyler Rudat of Council Bluffs, IA; sister Darlene Morgan of Greenfield; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emily Jane Poore; brother, Duane Poore and twin sisters, Doris and Dorene.
