GARY LEE STEWART

Gary Lee Stewart, son of Melvin Dean “Pete” Cavender and Ruby Marie Sutton was born July 21, 1953 in the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Marie married Donald Stewart and the family lived in Nevada and Canada before settling in Duluth, Minnesota.
Gary helped establish a free clinic in Duluth for low income people. Gary’s love for cooking took him to culinary school in the twin cities. In addition to being a chef, he was also an apartment manager.
In 1988, Kenneth Haas came into his life and they have been life partners over the years. In 2009, Gary and Kenny moved to Kellerton, Iowa and have made that their home since. Gary enjoyed camping and the outdoors.  Gary passed away upon arrival to the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr on October 27, 2018. He is preceded in death by his mother Marie Stewart; father Pete Cavender; adopted father, Donald Stewart and brother-in-law, John Worthington.
He is survived by his life partner, Kenny Haas of Kellerton, IA: two sisters, Jerri Worthington of Kellerton, IA and Janice (Tony) Luster of Muldrow, OK; two brothers, Dean (Cindy) Cavender of Ames, IA and Scott (Robyn) Stewart of Muldrow, OK; many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Stewart was cremated and no local services are scheduled at this time. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.armstrongfh.com.
