CHARLES EUGENE SOBOTKA

Charles “Chuck” Eugene Sobotka left this life to live with Jesus on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Iowa River Hospice Home following a brief battle with cancer. Chuck was born on the family farm southwest of Diagonal, Iowa on March 27, 1933 to Andrew and Eva Driskell Sobotka.
Funeral services for Chuck was Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Conrad United Methodist Church in Conrad. Visitation was on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown.  For condolences or questions please visit www.mitchellfh.com or phone 641-844-1234.  Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Charles and his family. Chuck graduated from Diagonal High School in 1951. He attended Iowa State University. He then served his country in the US Navy from February 9, 1953 to July 23, 1957 during the Korean Conflict. Following his service he returned to Diagonal to farm.
On April 8, 1961, Chuck married the love of his life, Cawren Strickler Sobotka at the Conrad United Methodist Church. Together they welcomed three daughters, Lynne Lee, Lori Marie and Christy Sue.
Chuck loved the land and his farm. There was no better smell on earth to him than the smell of freshly turned soil in the spring. He loved his family and treasured their time together. The entire family celebrated his and Cawren’s 50th wedding anniversary with a cruise to the Bahamas. Another highlight for Chuck was the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. on May 24, 2016. Chuck loved his home town and served it well. He was a church board member, Diagonal School board member, township trustee, American Legion member and a lifelong member of the Diagonal Lions Club.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Cawren of 57 years; daughters: Lynne (Paul) Kock of Beaman, IA, Lori (Greg) Glitto of Rosemount, MN and Christy (Ken) Roberts of Urbandale, IA. Also surviving are his eight precious grandchildren: Ashlee (Luke) Higgins, Macy Kock, Benjamin (Emily) Field, Jessica Field, Christian, Kylee (Esau) Casetta and Lauren and Noah Glitto as well as great-grandchildren Reagan and Camden Higgins; sisters, Margaret McGinnis and Sheryl Strange; brothers, Joe and Wallace Sobotka and many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Maxine Myers; brothers, Bernard and Elbert Lee; as well as brothers-in-law, Bill Myers, Carroll Strange and Darland McGinnis.
