Jennifer Kellner has opened “Uniquely Radiant in Mount Ayr.
During a time when much attention focuses on a business closing, it’s a welcome change to learn of a new business opening locally.
Such is the case with Uniquely Radiant, a new boutique that opened February 1 at 113 N. Taylor Street in Mount Ayr. And while the location may be new, owner Jennifer Kellner is no stranger to fashion retail in the area.
A couple years ago Kellner began Uniquely Radiant as a home-based business by offering items through LuLaRoe, a clothing line whose business model relies strictly upon direct sales through private parties. She soon purchased an enclosed trailer that became her mobile boutique that could be set up at private parties and other locations.
Still, Kellner had larger plans in mind.
“Even when I bought the trailer,” she said, “I knew I would be transitioning to something more.”
As a graphic design and marketing major, Kellner worked her way through college employed in various retail fashion venues. Over those four years, she said she developed a sense of people’s tastes as well as the intricacies of running a successful business. Because the LuLaRoe company prohibits sales through retail storefronts, Kellner chose to move on from the company and establish Uniquely Radiant as an independent retail outlet.
“The response so far has been really good,” she said. “I’m surprised, considering the weather we’ve had.”
Kellner said Uniquely Radiant specializes in women’s business casual attire with a “missy fit” tailored for adult women. She is especially proud of the fact that her inventory is “size inclusive,” ranging from small to 3X.
She also carries a small selection of dressier children’s wear.
Kellner has been asked to carry a selection of men’s clothing, but she’s taking a wait-and-see attitude until it’s learned the type of business that will be located in the soon-to-be-vacant Shopko building.
As the full-time receptionist at Ringgold County Hospital (a position she refers to as the “Director of First Impressions”), Kellner has scheduled part-time hours for Uniquely Radiant: 5-7 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays by appointment. Customers may also shop online at www.uniquelyradiant.com with local pick-up or shipping available. Plus, Kellner says she plans to retain her trailer for private parties and for outreach to other communities for the convenience of her ever-growing number of satisfied customers.
