The Ringgold County Chapter of Pheasants Forever will host their 30th Annual Banquet at the American Legion in Mount Ayr on Friday, April 5. The doors open at 5:30 and a prime rib dinner by Notorious BBQ will be served beginning at 7 p.m. with an auction following. Funds raised at the banquet support habitat work and youth education in Ringgold County.
This chapter of Pheasants Forever has contributed over $90,000 to public hunting land, habitat improvements, and food plots in Ringgold County. Additionally, Pheasants Forever at the state level has matched a large portion of those funds.
“In a time of ‘no trespassing’ signs and leased hunting, public land with quality habitat is an important commodity,” says chapter president Andy Kellner. “These great wildlife areas are places where birds thrive. People travel to Ringgold County to visit these places either to watch the birds or to hunt. But, in the end it’s not even about that because it isn’t about us. It’s about our children and their children and every generation after.”
Highlighting that belief, Pheasants Forever has spent over $10,000 for youth groups and youth education in Ringgold County.
“Whether it is the Nature Center, sending kids to an outdoor camp, the Diagonal Archery in the Schools Program, or sponsoring hunter’s education, we want to make it happen,” states chapter leader John Newton.
Newton has exemplified this mission as the long-time instructor for the local hunter’s education course. Hundreds of hunters here in Ringgold County began their outdoor adventures by learning from Newton.
“We have raised over $100,000 for Ringgold County projects and brought in even more outside funds. We want another 30 years starting on April 5,” commented Kellner. “Come enjoy the evening and help support Ringgold County wildlife projects and our youth.”
