An extraordinarily short agenda awaited the Mount Ayr city council at their regular meeting Monday, March 18.
The council approved the third and final reading of a city ordinance amending garbage pickup rates. The increased rates will go into effect July 1.
Monthly rate increases

The council also approved a series of minor change orders from contractors working on the water distribution improvement project.
A change order from Jordan and Sons covered a slight route change as well as the granting of a weather extension. The change order carried no monetary impact.
The change order from Shane Poe Construction resulted from a change in the size of a section of pipe as well as a weather extension. This change order actually saved the city $36,000.
The third change order from A&W Enterprises dealt with unexpected mitigation of underground storage facilities along with a weather extension. This change increased the cost of this portion of the project by $3,700.
In other business, the council approved the renewal of a Class C liquor license and outdoor service permit for Still Smokin’ BBQ.
