CORY JAY KUONEN

Cory Jay Kuonen, 63, of Creston died March 18, 2019 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.  A memorial gathering to celebrate his life will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the United Church of Diagonal. Private burial will be at the Diagonal Cemetery. Memorials are to the family. Online condolences can be given at www.powersfh.com
Cory Jay Kuonen was born February 22, 1956 in Orange, CA to Rene “Andy” Andreas Kuonen and Gertie “Dee” Dolores (Cole).  He was welcomed home by sister Kathy and brothers Andy and Dave.
Cory attended high school in Diagonal and graduated with the class of 1974.
Cory worked for the railroad for several years after high school and also worked at his family’s electrical shop in Diagonal. In 1982 he was united in marriage to Lori Nichols. They had two children before divorcing in 1990. After their divorce, Cory lived in Diagonal and worked several years for Sur-Gro before moving to Creston to be closer to his brother. He then worked for Luther Electric for a short while before becoming disabled.
Cory was an electrician by trade but was also a hobby woodworker. He made many creations both big and small and always paid attention to detail when working on his projects. He had a love for Nascar and his favorite drivers were both Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. Cory was also a member of the Eagles Lodge in Creston, IA.
He is survived by his son, Christopher (Ashley) Kuonen of De Soto, IA and daugther, Ashley Kuonen of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren, Addison, Connor and Callen Kuonen of De Soto, IA; brothers, Andy (Paula) Kuonen of Clarinda, IA and Dave Kuonen of Creston, IA; nieces and nephews, Renee (Kelley) Faris, Tim McNay, Jason (Torri) Kuonen, Jennifer (Mason) Mercer and Justin (Chelsey) Kuonen and many other relatives and friends.
Cory was preceded in death by his parents, grand-daughter, Alyssa Kuonen, and sister, Kathy.
