Ringgold County will observe the end of an era, Saturday, May 11.
After 50 years entertaining music lovers near and far, the Ringgold Singers will perform their final program during their annual Mother’s Day brunch at the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr.
The event will begin at 9 a.m.
The Ringgold Singers have aspired to be singers since 1969 when Sybil Kelley started the group as an addition to the Federated Women’s Choral Club.
Since that time they have performed for a variety of occasions at a wide range of locations.
Performances have included spring shows, veterans’ shows, Christmas shows, dinner shows, Christmas caroling and nursing home shows.
Over the years they’ve made appearances at the Iowa State Fair, Iowa Sheriff’s convention, Ringgold County Fair, Blockton reunion, Grant City Fun Night, and county gospel sings.
During this year’s performance, all past singers, directors, and accompanists for both Ringgold Singers and Women’s Federated Choral Club will be recognized.
Special recognition will go to Janet Hickman, a charter member of both Choral Club (1959) and Ringgold Singers. Other charter members of Ringgold Singers include Carol and Jim McCreary and Dick and Camille Jackson.
A free-will offering will be accepted for this year’s brunch, and door prizes will be awarded.
Special displays in the church foyer will highlight past concerts. Items will include scrapbooks, programs, pictures, posters, videos and costumes.
All ages are welcome to honor mothers everywhere and to pay a final salute to a 50-year Ringgold County institution.
