JAMIE JO BOOS
Jamie Jo (Jones) Boos, daughter of Patti (Lovitt) Dolecheck (Cecil Dolecheck) and Steve Jones was born November 13, 1970, in Wurzburg, Germany. Jamie later welcomed her brother, Justin, and sister, Stephanie. She grew up in Mount Ayr, IA, graduating from Mount Ayr High School in 1989.
During her high school years, Jamie participated in drill team, track, volleyball and basketball. She went on to graduate from the Drake University College of Pharmacy in 1994. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority where she made many lifelong friendships. After graduation, Jamie joined the Osco Drug family and remained there during the many acquisitions throughout her career. During her 25-year tenure, she not only cared for her patients, but was known for her role as a Pharmacy Recruiter, adding hundreds of pharmacists to the Osco/CVS family. She impacted the lives of many college students serving as their mentor. Her infectiously positive personality made her one of the best recruiters in the Midwest.
On May 13, 2000, Jamie was united in marriage to Shane Michael Boos in the Church of the Ascension, Overland Park, KS. From this union four children were welcomed; Abigail Grace, William Thomas, Megan Stella, and Alexa Marie. Jamie and Shane established their home in Overland Park and became immersed in church, school and community activities.
In 2000, she was confirmed in the Catholic faith where she became a volunteering member of the Church of the Ascension. Jamie was also involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters Overland Park.
Whether it was sports, Scouts, or being a room parent, Jamie’s energy for her family showed no bounds. Family came first. This was evident through Jamie’s support of Camp Kesem, a camp dedicated to serving children affected by a parent’s cancer. With her children’s futures in mind, her four children have been participants the last three summers.
Jamie was a best friend to everyone outside her family as well. There was never a bad day to be with or around her. Socially she enjoyed concerts, golf, board games, parties, alumni events (for schools she didn’t even go to) but mostly time among family and friends. Her laughter and smile were contagious. Her sense of humor, while always extremely sharp, was delivered with precise timing and something that never left her.
On Thursday, May 16, after a courageous eight-year battle with breast cancer, Jamie passed away at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 19 years, Shane and children, Will (13), Abby (13), Megan (11) and Alexa (9) of Overland Park KS; mother and step-father, Patti and Cecil Dolecheck of Mount Ayr, father; Steve Jones of San Tan Valley, Arizona; brother, Justin (Teena) Jones of Tingley; sister, Stephanie (Cody) Knop of Des Moines, great grandmother, Edna Jones of Mount Ayr, and special great aunt, Alice Mae Johnston of Mount Ayr, parents-in-law, George and Jane Boos of Atchison, KS; brother-in-law, Shawn Boos, Abingdon, Maryland, uncle, Barry (Kate) Jones of Clemson, SC and aunt, Kathy (Lynn) Rinehart, Mount Ayr, seven nieces and nephews and many, many friends and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Dwight and Essie Lovitt, her grandfather, Jim Jones, her uncle, David Lovitt, step-mother, Jean Jones and special great uncle, William Johnston.
Services were held at the Church of the Ascension on Wednesday, May 22. Committal services were at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the Boos’ preference is for contributions to the children’s education fund and health expenses.
