To the Editor,
Several months ago my daughter, Anne Harover Yell, paid for my subscription to the Record News. She has enjoyed reading it and knew I would, too. My husband, Bill Harover and our four daughters lived in Mount Ayr from 1954 to 1980. Bill, a pharmacist was the part owner of the Rexall Drug Store on the north side of the square and all four of our girls graduated from Mount Ayr High School. I was a music teacher and we all enjoyed the Record News then. We were all involved in many activities in the town and remember it as a great place to live.
Now I live in a Senior Citizen’s residence in St. Charles, MO, next door to St. Louis and I am a Cardinal’s fan and read the St. Louis Post/Dispatch daily.
But I want to congratulate you on your Record News now. I love reading about my old friends, in Mount Ayr’s fine two care centers and my former neighbors on North Hayes Street. I believe that the recently shown photo of a country road may be of North Hayes Street, but looking south from one or two miles north. The bridge was intact then. However, the one time I walked from my house north to the remains of the bridge, the road wasn’t there either.
Your paper has news from all over the county and plenty of coverage of both Mount Ayr and Diagonal’s schools. I like reading your ads, your colored photos and the two grocery store ads, also the city and county and farm news.
Again, congratulations on your fine paper.
