To the editor:
2019 weather has been interesting, devastating and challenging. We could probably add a few more descriptive words. The winter was extra cold at times. An abundance of snow fell and drifted in many places. The spring has been wet and flooded and stormy.
It makes me think of a time in Bible history recorded in 2 Chronicles chapter seven. Solomon had become king. They were worshipping and celebrating and all was going well. God spoke to Solomon and said “If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land or if I send pestilence among my people—-“. God the creator says He can make it rain or withhold it, and controls other environmental situations. It seems God would be trying to get their attention and get them back “on track” based on what He says next. “-and My people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”.*
Yes, we are not ancient Israel, but God is still God, and He might be trying to get our attention and get us back “on track”. It’s worth considering! The Bible records many situations and experiences that give us things to think about and consider.
We are having the Bible Reading Marathon again this year June 27, 28 and 29 if needed. It is an opportunity to read or listen to parts of the Bible for half an hour—or longer. God said in Isaiah 55:11 that when His word goes out it has a purpose and doesn’t come back empty. See what God has to say to you. There will be more information coming.
