Abigail Barnes makes contact against the Earlham Lady Cardinals pitcher last week. Barnes recorded three hits and two runs in game two against the Lady Cardinals which helped the Raiderettes win 14-2 in five innings.
Mount Ayr 12, SWV 0
Last week the Raiderettes began a long road campaign at Mormon Trail, in which they won 17-0.
Their next stop was in Corning as they faced a Southwest Valley Timberwolf team.
The Raiderettes won in five after scoring 12 runs, led by Addy Reynolds who scored three runs, including a two run homer, while her courtesy runner, MaKayla Jones snuck in one.
Channler Henle was dialed in at the plate as well. Henle was at-bat twice and recorded two hits, two runs, one being a double, and knocked in two runners and stole two bases.
Caroline McAlexander started in the circle for Mount Ayr, striking out five and allowing one hit in the two and two-thirds innings she pitched.
“We learned a valuable lesson tonight,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “We didn’t get off the bus well. I have not seen our lineup go through the first time with four strikeouts. Once we got into the second inning we got things going.”

Earlham 3, MA 2
The next day, the Raiderettes took their tour north to Earlham for a doubleheader.
This contest was exactly that. The girls battled through the first game, scoring a run in their first at-bat, however, Earlham answered with two runs of their own to take the lead.
The game sat at 2-1 in favor of Earlham until the bottom of the third when the Cardinals saw a runner across home for a 3-1 lead.
The Raiderettes looked to make a comeback but fell short in the sixth scoring their final run to fall 3-2 after a scoreless seventh inning for their first loss of the season to drop to 7-1.
“This was our first good test. Thought we played okay, we made two very bad defensive plays at second base,” said coach Ruggles. “They were good ideas, just didn’t execute. We have had some really bad situational hitting, but we have won by 12 or 15-0.”

The Raiderettes were able to get a little revenge on the next game and work out some wrinkles in their play.
Addy Reynolds had a monster of a game with a three run homer and recording five RBIs.
Sam Stewart was busy on the bases with three RBIs and four runs.
Halsie Barnes was walked three times and saw home plate three times as well as stealing one base.
Alexa Anderson received the win in the circle, allowing two runs on six hits, walking two and striking out two.
The Raiderettes put up runs in all five innings, ending the game after four.
“I was proud of our girls responding and coming back and getting a great win here in the second game,” said Ruggles. “I told them, offensively we beat up their JV pitcher but that’s okay we are supposed to. What I am proud of was we held them to two, held them defensively and our base-running really improved.”

Mount Ayr 5, Lenox 0
Continuing their road trip, the Raiderettes took the short hop and skip over to Lenox for a big Pride of Iowa matchup against the 11-1 Lenox Lady Tigers.
The first couple of innings were a battle, with Mount Ayr leading 1-0 through the first two, but a few hits on Tiger pitcher TJ Stoakes seemed to get her flustered and the Raidrettes put up four runs in the third.
McAlexander pitched a great game, only allowing four hits and striking out seven batters and walking one.
McAlexander also had a two run homer in the fourth to help push things along.
Sam Stewart stayed busy, stealing three bases throughout the seven inning contest and scoring two runs.
The Raiderettes improved to 9-1, while Lenox dropped to 11-2.
“We put pressure on them every single inning,” said Ruggles. “My wife said we had runners in position atleast every single inning if not on or second or third. Sam Stewart was fantastic tonight. She has that mentality, orneriness and I’ve loved it since I had her as a seventh grader. They are ornery little things but man they just don’t believe you can ever throw them out and look shocked when you do.”

SEW 3, Mount Ayr 1
The Raiderettes found themselves in familar territory against Southeast Warren, falling 3-1 for their second loss of the year.
The Raidrettes have struggled against the Lady Warhawks for years now, with their last win against them coming in the 2010-11 season by a score of 6-5.
The Raidrettes mustered three hits and one run on 24 at-bats and were walked once.
Caroline McAlexander took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out one.
“We hit the ball, unfortunately we hit it right to people,” said Ruggles. “That’s the way the game is played sometimes. Some teams play some teams different. It’s something they do that’s different.”

The Raiderettes battled through adversity in the championship game against Griswold to end the day.
McAlexander doubled at her first time at bat and on an Alexa Anderson single, McAlexander took off as the shortstop stepped up into the baseline, causing a collision between the two players. Both were under immediate concussion protocol and evaluated.
Both players would sit the game out, while Eva Sobotka entered the line up, in which she would knock in two runners.
Maddie Stewart stole three bases against the Tigers and recorded two runs on the day as well.
With McAlexander out, Anderson started and received the win. She allowed three hits, walked three and struck out one batter.
Zoey Larsen closed out the game and struck out one batter.
“For our girls to step up into weird position and do things we don’t normally do was huge for us,” said coach Ruggles. “For them to step up and step in and do a great job, I thought Peyton Lambert had a great day for a girl who is trying to find her bat.”
