Community members may have noticed some work going on at the south end of Judge Lewis Park, near the merry-go-round recently involving small dirt hills and a “tunnel”.
The Mount Ayr Park and Recreation board has been working on bringing a green space play area to the park as one more option for children to utilize while enjoying the city park.
As of now, the play area consists of balance beams and a hill to climb on, however, plans are in the works to also include a tire “mountain”, native grasses and flowers as well as a bench or two.
The plan is for the dirt to be covered in a plant called creeping thyme which will offer a soft, natural area for those who utilize the space.
