Eighmy Monument of Mount Ayr installed the new Ringgold County Veterans Memorial on the northwest corner of the courthouse yard Thursday. The 6,000 lbs. monument is sitting on a 1,400 lbs. base as when finished will have six benches surrounding it. The monument is six feet high, five feet wide and 10 inches thick. The memorial is meant to honor all county veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice in giving their life for their country. All county soldiers who have been killed in action–from the civil war to the present–have their names inscribed on the back of the stone. No tax dollars were used for the memorial with funds coming from veterans, individuals, businesses, families and organizations.
